School of Politics and Administration

The School of Politics and Administration of South China Normal University was established in July 2000. It was composed by former department of politics and law, former department of ideological education, former institute of philosophy, and former group of moral education. Now there two department of political education, department of political science and administration, department of Marxist theory.

There are strong teaching staff of 82 among the total staff of 96 in the school. There are 16 professors, and 24 associate professors. Most teaching staff have doctoral degree or master's degree. Now,there are 630 undergraduate, 155 graduate and 11 doctoral students.

The school offers various levels of teaching programs in several fields, which makes our school an outstanding one among the same kind of schools in China. And the school owns a major project of ?11 program? Our school can offer doctoral degree in Marxist theory and political education , master degree in 7 fields, and a bachelor degree in law.

Our school has been paying great attention to research. Laying equal stress on both teaching and research, our teachers especially work hard for research, and have made outstanding achievements.Our school has completed the project of ?Philosophy of Social History and Sustainable Social Development? a key project of the first period of ?11 Program? It has been checked and accepted by the government. In cooperation with the school of Economics and management, our school are taking the project of “Socialist Market Economy and Sustainable Social Development? a project of the second period of ?11 Program? Through the construction of the first period of ?11 Program? the conditions for teaching and research in our school have greatly been improved, and the construction of graduate programs and research have reached a new level. It is hopeful that the conditions for teaching and research in our school will be more improved, and the construction of graduate programs and research will reach a newer level, through the construction of the second period of ?11 Program?

Since 1996, the teachers in our school undertook 8 projects of China's Foundation of Social Sciences, 17 projects of Guangdong Province and Ministry of Education, and got 15 awards of country-level and province-level. We published 81 academic books, 8 translation books, nearly 100 textbooks, and 1082 papers, including 168 papers in authoritative academic journals.Since 1996, we held 4 international academic monographic conferences, and 8 national academic monographic conferences.

Our School keeps a good academic relationship with foreign universities, such as Harvard University, Boston University, University of Hawaii, Oxford University, E de Provence (France), University of Alberta (Canada). And we keep a good academic relationship with universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong, such as City University Of Hong Kong, Danjiang University, Taiwan Normal University. We also keep a good academic relationship with famous universities and institutes in mainland China. We sent more than 100 of our teachers as visiting scholars to national and international universities, and invited 70 senior visiting scholars from China and other countries.

There are modern offices of 1200 square meters and a library of 360 square meters in our school. There are 100 thousand books and 300 kinds of periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages in the library. And there are a modern lecture hall and a working hall with multi-media. A big electronic reading room will be built soon.

Doctoral Programs

The school offers doctoral degree in Marxist theory and political education .The program of Marxist theory and political education began in 2000. The head of the program is prof. Wang Hongwei. There are 8 professors, 13 associate professors, and 5 lecturers who teach and research in the program. The main subprograms are theories and practice of outlook on life and axiology, materialist conception of history and development of contemporary society, Marxism and Chinese Modernization.

Master's Programs

There are 7 Master's Programs in our school. In addition, there is also a part-time program of education for middle school teachers. These programs are as follows: Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, logic, ethics, Marxist theory and ideological education, scientific socialism and international Communist movement, political theory, education for political courses of middle school.

Undergraduate Programs
There aretwo undergraduate programs for full-time students in our school: ideological education, and administration study. The first one is teacher's program, the other is non-teacher's program. In the near future, we will have more undergraduate programs.
Program of Ideological Education
This program is for the students who will be middle school teachers, administrators, and ideological educators. The main courses of this program are Study of Constitution, Logic, Ethics, International Politics, Marxist Philosophy, Political Theories, Sociology, Theories and Methods of Ideological Education, Theories of Socialist Market Economy, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping's Theory, Introduction to Law, Aesthetics, Skills for Teaching of Political Courses of Middle School, and so on.

Program of Political Science and Administration
This program is for the students who will be public administrators, business administrators, and community administrators. The main courses for this program are History of Political Thought, Modern Chinese Political Systems, Analysis of Public Policy, Political Theories, Public Administration, Study of Constitution, Logic, Theories of Socialist Market Economy, Social Survey and Statistic, History of Administration Thought, Administration Law and Administration Suit Law, and so on.
